About me
Hello everyone and welcome to my blog! My name is Brett Banford and I from the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina. This blog is all about my commitment to fitness and the trials and tribulations of my physical, mental, and emotional journey through a life of fitness.
My journey officially began with the beginning of the new year of 2012. Before I get into where my fitness journey began, I want to give everyone a little background of how my journey came to begin in the first place. Prior to 2012 I had always followed the path that most of us follow as we grow up. Went through high school playing sports (Lacrosse to be exact) and keeping active with friends. Being blessed with a high metabolism I never had to worry about what I ate or any kind of nutrition, life was simple and good. As I moved into my college years at NC State University (GO WOLFPACK!!) I started focusing on my school a lot more than I did my fitness. I played a little bit of club lacrosse my first two years, but junior and senior year I slipped into a lull of not caring about exercising since my metabolism was still fairly high. I had attempted to workout sporadically through my last two years in college yet I always found an excuse to stop working out whether it was I didn’t have time, pure laziness, and many others. After graduating college in May of 2011 I started my big boy job doing stem cell research.
My life to this point was right on the path that most people would deem to be on the road to success. After working at my job for 7 months it finally hit me. Something was missing, work was nice and I enjoyed it very much, but I would get home and realize I had nothing to do except lounge around and play video games, eat, and repeat. I wouldn’t realize it until 4 months later what it was that I was really missing. While in the mountains at the end of December I had just finished a huge dinner and was getting ready to relax in the room. When I took off my shirt and looked in the mirror I was horrified at what I saw. I had undeniably developed a gut and loss every amount of definition I had through high school and my early years in college. It was in that moment that I made my commitment to a healthier lifestyle. I decided like everyone else does to take a new years resolution to get into shape, to make a commitment. It was through this commitment that I realized I was missing a passion, a drive, and a love for something that makes me truly happy with who I am.
I know this journey is going to be a lifelong journey and is not gonna be easy. There are going to be times where I am going to make excuses about why I can’t work out and other times where I want a nice, fat, juicy burger. No one is perfect I know I am certainly not. What I do know is that I want to get the most out of my life and be happy with who I am and what I am doing.
I hope my blog will serve to help inspire and motivate others to achieve all of their fitness goals. I also hope that it will lead people to realize that fitness is more than a physical journey and allows you to connect to something far deeper within yourself and others (something everyone will define and find at their own pace). Please leave lots of comments!! Also never hesitate to contact me! Lastly I am also a Beachbody Coach (a pretty good one I think haha) so you should definitely sign up for a free Beachbody account and have me as your personal Coach!
