Insanity-How Bad Can It Be?

Insanity

Do you have what it takes?

Today is going to be my first day of Insanity!  I am really excited to start this new adventure now that I have finished P90X (you can check out my P90X experience by clicking here).  P90X gave me such great results and now I am ready to see what Insanity can do for me. I have heard a lot of people opinions over the last six months about Insanity and for the most part they all seem to be pretty positive.  Now it is time to form my own opinion!  For those of you who don’t know anything about Insanity, I am going to go through the basics of the program and hopefully answer as many questions as possible through this post.

What You Need to Know About Insanity

What is Insanity?

Insanity is a Max Interval Training program designed by fitness trainer Shaun T. Max interval training is pretty much exactly what it says, it is very intense cardio intervals that have short breaks in between.  This is the opposite for most traditional interval training where you go longer at lower intensities and shorter at higher intensities.  This is why the program is called Insanity in my opinion because you are pushing yourself at your fitness max with only a short amount of rest in between each interval.

How long will it take to finish Insanity?

The program itself is 60 days and is broken up into two 30 day phases with each workout being less than an hour.  The first phase involves intense cardio workouts that will test you with plyometrics or jump training, cardio power moves for upper body definition, and nonstop cardio to get you started towards your rock hard abs.  The second phase of Insanity will push you to your limits as he takes the last month to the MAX.  Lucky for us there are some recovery workouts in between to help you progress from week to week.

What equipment do I need for Insanity?

This is probably the best part about Insanity in my opinion.  The only equipment you need for every single workout is your body, that’s it!  The Insanity program uses your natural body weight to help you melt away fat and build lean muscle.  No accessories required!

What should I eat while I’m doing Insanity?

This is a very broad question that I am going to try and condense down the best I can.  To start with and the most indirect way to answer this question, when your buy Insanity it comes with a nutrition guide that will definitely give you all the information you need when it comes to how you should eat while on the program.  However personally for me I just don’t have the time to prep all of the food they recommend on a 24 hour basis so I tend to follow the nutiriton guide sparingly.  I would recommend two things however.  The first one would definitely be to make sure you eat some form of carbs.  Carbs are what is going to give you the energy you need to complete these workouts.  Things that have whole grains in them are excellent sources pasta, bread etc.  Second I would highly recommend taking Shakeology as a meal replacement.  It gives you all the nutrients your body needs and will also provide you with additional energy you need for these workouts without the added stimulants.  I’m not going to go any further with information about Shakeology as I will be creating future posts about it.  For now if you want more information on Shakeology you can click here.

Is Insanity right for me?

Finally I just wanted to touch on the question on whether or not Insanity is right for everyone.  From what I have seen and heard thus far Insanity is a pretty intense workout.  If you have never worked out before and are just beginning your fitness journey or have not worked out in a very long time, this program may not be where you want to start.  I am not saying that it is not possible for you to do it, but I would hate for this program to discourage you because it really will push you to your mental and physical limits, at least from what I have heard and seen.  There are plenty of other intermediate or beginners programs which you can start at and work your way up to.  However if you really want to have to DIG deep and bring it, if you want to be pushed to your limits and really get some AMAZING results then I say go for it just like I am.
