Insanity Workout Review – The Truth Exposed!

Insanity workout reviewI finally finished the Insanity workout!  Man was it a grueling two months! Shaun T really brings it with this workout.  Many people are looking for an honest Insanity workout review and want to know if you can really get the results that the workout promises.  Well I am sorry to disappoint you, but I am not going to post my results in this post, they will be featured in a post soon to follow this one.  What I am going to share with you is my thoughts and opinions of the Insanity workout and what I did and didn’t like about the program.  I am not going to hold anything back in my Insanity workout review because I want to make sure before you decide to do or not do Insanity that you have a clear picture of what this workout is actually like.

Insanity Workout Review – A Brief Overview

In case you are not exactly clear on how Insanity works I want to give you a brief run through on how the program is put together.  So to begin your 60 day journey you will set your foundation for the program with the Insanity Fit Test. This will essentially be your starting point for the program.  Then you start your workouts! In month one Shaun T takes it easy on you (although it certainly doesn’t feel like it when you start).  The first month are a series of workouts to get you moving and grooving and will certainly make you sweat.  After a week of the recovery workouts, you will jump right into month two.  Month two Shaun T really picks up the pace and it honestly feels like you are starting all over again.  You take more Insanity fit tests in between until you finish all the way through with the workout.

Insanity Workout Review – The Rating Categories

In order to make this a proper Insanity workout review I am going to base my review on categories and the ratings that I give for each one.  I want to rate the categories on a 1-10 scale with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best.  The categories will be broken down into the following:

  • Difficulty - This will judge how hard the workouts were obviously.
  • Effectiveness – This will judge how effective I felt Insanity was for me personally.
  • Enjoyability -This will judge the level of enjoyment I had while doing the program (obviously my personal opinion).
  • Overall -  My overall impression of the workout.

*I feel it is necessary for my Insanity workout review to judge the two months separately and then give a combined overall score simply since the two months are just so different.

Insanity Workout Review – Month 1 Scores

Dig Deep!So here are my first set of scores for month one of my Insanity workout review:

  • Difficulty -  8
  • Effectiveness – 8.5
  • Enjoyability – 9

For the first month, my Insanity workout review scores were fairly easy to come up with.  After finishing up P90X I felt that I was ready to take on Insanity.  The difficulty was pretty good.  The workouts definitely pushed me hard and I felt great after finishing them.  The effectiveness of the workouts were very noticeable after I took my first fit test. My lungs felt stronger and I was feeling the difference each week!  As far as how enjoyable the workouts were, they were all new and very fun to learn all of the moves.  I enjoyed performing the wide array of exercises that Shaun T put in the first month worth of workouts.

Overall Score – 8.5

Insanity Workout Review – Month 2 Scores

InsanityAnd here are my second set of scores for month two of my Insanity workout review:

  • Difficulty -  9.9
  • Effectiveness – 9
  • Enjoyability – 7

For the second month, my Insanity workout review scores gave me a little more trouble.  Feeling good after the first month of Insanity for month two I’d be ready!  I was sadly mistaken haha.  The second month of Insanity was BRUTAL!  I refuse to give any workout a 10, just because haha, but this was by far the most intense workout I have ever done! The effectiveness of month two was awesome, the more my lungs burned the better I felt!  I do have to say though that because the workouts were so hard it made them a little harder to enjoy.

Overall Score – 8.5

Insanity Workout Review – The Final Score

After everything is said and done, for my final score for my Insanity workout review, I would have to give the program:

Final Overall Score: 8.5

It was certainly a journey through this workout, but it was one well worth it.  I got some good lean muscle out of the program and my lungs feel great! 1. Wow. Now, you are scaring me. I might have to try Sweating to the Oldies. I think this is still on tap after Round Three of P90X2. Great information.

  2. This definitely is a tough one for me. My knees have a hard time with it, but for those that can do it seem to get good results.

  3. Great post as I am finishing week 3 (first month) of Insanity now. I also finished P90X right before doing Insanity and was looking for something to help me with cardio and endurance. This is it all right!

I feel that the Insanity workouts are tougher than P90X for me. I sweat buckets as compared to my P90X workouts. I am not getting the muscle work like I did in P90X, but my quads are getting big for all the jumping.

I decided to begin this phase of my fitness plan to better prepare for police academy. I knew I needed my in the area of endurance and INSANITY is getting me there.

Awesome Sean! It looks like you were right there where I was at when I started. Absolutely the Insanity workouts are tougher, and I am right there with you as far as missing the muscle work. That is great your joining the police academy after Insanity you’ll be able to take on anything!

  4. Ok, I’m going to concede that I will probably never do Insanity with the exception of maybe at Fit Club. It looks to be too Insane for this old lady, haha!

  5. Love Insanity. I have done this one more than once and as hybrid with P90X. It is awesome

  6. Great review…it’s such a great program! Thanks for sharing!

No problem Jared, I didn’t really have huge physical results from it, but my cardio by far is better than when I started!
