P90X vs Insanity

p90x vs insanityP90X vs Insanity, the two heavy weight hitters for team beachbody and as such the two workouts with the most questions asked about them.  Well a big question that a lot of people ask is which program is best for me, P90X or Insanity.  These are both two completely different programs that are very different from each other in a lot of aspects, but both share the same common goal of getting you into the best shape of your life.  When it comes to deciding between P90X vs Insanity which program is best for you, you need to know the major differences between the two and be able to decide which program fits your own set of personal goals best. I am going to go into details on how the two programs are different and what their pros and cons are.  Since I have personally been through both programs now I feel very comfortable being able to share my opinion on my favorite and which one I enjoyed more.  Either way let your goals decide what it best for you and choose the program you feel you will get the most benefit from.

P90X – P90X vs Insanity

This was the program that started it all.  P90X is an incredible workout and was the first program that I fully went through.  I got some incredible results with this program (My P90X Experience) and am very passionate when it comes to my opinions over it. For me personally when it comes to P90X vs Insanity, I would have to pick P90X solely because I enjoy the strength and resistance training that is lacking in Insanity.   Either way they are both great programs, but here are some pros and cons when talking about P90X.

Pros of P90X

  • Total body workout, you get muscle strength and resistance and some cardio.
  • Track your progress on a workout to workout basis for added motivation.
  • Has multiple schedules you can follow: Lean, Classic, and Doubles.
  • Small breaks in between exercises.
  • Simple moves that most people have done. (push ups, pull ups, squats etc.)
  • AB RIPPER X (personal opinion pro, but an incredible ab workout)
  • Versatility of the workouts (Yoga, Plyo, Core synergistics, Cardio X, and varying strength move workouts).

Cons of P90X

  • Time – 60 minutes can be long for some people especially the 90 minute Yoga X workout.
  • Repetitiveness – only 2 workouts that change between the 3 months of the program.
  • Equipment needed – some people do not want to buy the upfront equipment for P90X.
  • Length of the program is 90 days some may find this too long compared to Insanity’s 60 days.
  • Kenpo X tends to be lacking in the cardio department, and may not meet everyone’s expectations.

Insanity – P90X vs Insanity

This program is exactly what the title says “Insanity”.  Insanity is primarily geared towards cardio and will really make you work up a sweat.  I really enjoyed this program because I was really lacking in the cardio department.  I really enjoyed watching my lung capacity increase and genuinely feeling that I just did a hell of a workout from all of the extensive sweating.  That being said  while Insanity really focuses on cardio it some what lacks in the strength and resistance department. So don’t look to make some big muscle gains with this workout.  And with that I am just going to jump right into the Insanity pros and cons.

Pros of Insanity

  • These workouts are fairly short compared to P90X averaging around 45 min.
  • Awesome Instructor (personal opinion compared to Tony)- Shaun T really pushes you to dig deeper each workout
  • Fit test provides great accomplishments markers throughout the program.
  • NO EQUIPMENT – this is a big one compared to P90X, all you need is your body.
  • A sense of accomplishment after each workout because of their level of difficulty
  • A cardio lover’s dream come true!

Cons of Insanity

  • These workouts can be hard on the joints for some people.
  • Very intense workouts and may leave beginners feeling disheartened.
  • Lacks muscle strength and resistance compared with P90X
  • Some moves may be hard for people to master.
